Croatia Sailing: Hvar

The day we had been waiting for was finally here!

The sun was shining and it was finally warm enough to wear shorts and a t-shirt, and actually start working on our tans.

We were starting an 8 day Croatia Island Hopper tour with Busabout, and we were that excited.

Home away from home

It was our first holiday on our holiday. We found that travelling and holidaying are two completely different things. When travelling we are sleeping in a different bed every two nights and continually lugging our backpacks around with us on various forms of transport. But on a holiday we are sleeping in the same bed and can relax and unpack and our transportation is all ready for us.

Now can you see why we were excited?

We boarded our boat, dumped our bags in our tiny but cute cabins and were encouraged to lie out and relax on the top deck before the tour began. Is this heaven??

Best seats in the house

Once we set sail we met our fellow passengers and tour guide. There were 14 Aussies, 1 Kiwi and 2 English lads, and they would be our family for the next week.

An afternoon lying out on the roof of the boat, my only complaint was that it was a little cold because of the wind! So when our first swim stop came about, we were reluctant to get in the water.

Each day the boat will stop and we have an opportunity to jump off and go swimming in the Adriatic Sea. A few brave people made the jump, claiming “the water wasn’t cold, it was fresh”.

Think I’ll wait until the weather warms up a bit thanks!

That evening we made it to our first island, Hvar. It was beautiful with boats lined up at the dock, trees and flowers and impressive old buildings. Home to the rich and famous I was definitely in my zone. A quick drink and explore and we were out to our first group dinner.

Amazing

Love it

We dined at a seafood restaurant where I ordered shrimp pasta, but unfortunately the shrimp wasn’t shelled and all I was eating were antennae and shrimp legs.

I'll stick to my drink thanks

We found that Happy Hour was a big part of the trip. Back to the boat for drink specials and some intense games of Kings, and we were ready to go out.

Where the party's at

We hit up Kiva bar for some drinking and dancing, and we learnt of the Tequila Boom Boom.

I had no idea what it was, but I would soon find out.

They're going to do what??

A tequila Boom Boom involves wearing an old helmet, while the bar tender makes you a tequila and lemonade drink. The only catch is to shake the drink the bar tender hits you over the head with the glass. Hard. Repeatedly.

The devil wears red

Ouch! She actually loves her job

It was so fun but actually painful! I had distinct lumps on my head from where she hit me, even through the helmet.

But you only live once right? And the tequila went down great after that.

Girls just wanna have fun

Call me maybe?

Bit of crowd surfing? Why not

It was such a fun night to start our Croatia trip. Getting to bed at 5:30am it would be a struggle to make it to breakfast before 9am!
